Welcome

Glad you found your way here.
So I’m taking a stab at this whole Blogging thing. For those of you who know me as Marc the PowerPoint Guy, I’ll be using this site to update you on what’s going on in my life – the life of a presentation guru. I’ll be posting some general information about my past, present and maybe even my future (ooooooooh!), and of course the usual info about my services and capabilities.

I’m still here!

27 02 2009

Well, it’s been a while since I posted here. Fortunately, I’ve been busy working. Apparently the global recession is working in my favour. I suppose this is an ideal time to focus on getting a strong message out to the public, in an attempt to regain sales. Advertising and Marketing budgets have been universally cut, the entire financial world is in cost-cutting mode, and the powers-that-be are increasingly nervous about spending large sums of money to get a message out that they fear may be judged as wasteful. I guess it makes sense that many of my clients are getting back to basics, and taking the word to the street with affordable but efficient PowerPoint presentations. Now is not the time to be overly flashy. We have to show the world that we too are suffering – but we still need to stay in business, am I right? Interesting times indeed. For what it’s worth, the industries that I work with most often have been hit the hardest by the current financial situation, but life must go on. Business as usual – more or less. Here’s a prediction for you: in two years’ time, we’ll look back at this global “recession” and laugh and laugh and laugh. Well, maybe that’s taking it a bit far…….but we’ll laugh.

Funny because it’s true

What’s all this I hear about Flash?

26 11 2008

More and more presentations these days are being created entirely in Adobe Flash. So what does that mean for you? Well, a Flash presentation can be incredibly exciting and appealing. It does, however, take far more planning and development time. Also, once the file is created, you will not be able to make last-minute changes or additions. So for these reasons, this type of presentation is best-suited for large-scale meetings, AGMs or conferences. I can offer presentations created in Flash, but I can also create single slide animations, which would then be embedded into your PowerPoint file, without disrupting the rest of your presentation. This currently is a very popular option. If you’re interested in giving your PPT a boost, just give me a shout.

A True PowerPoint Guru

26 11 2008

For some reason, the word ‘guru’ is commonly used following the word ‘PowerPoint’ when used to describe someone who spends much of their time designing presentations. Not sure why ‘guru’ became the designation of choice, but it just seems to fit, doesn’t it? Accounting guru? Nah – doesn’t have that ring to it. Should we start calling Dentists Tooth Gurus? Something not quite right about that either. I’m often called a PowerPoint guru. At first it sounded a bit odd….but now I’m ok with it – yeah, guru…I’m a guru of something! Feels good I guess. Now where do I sign up for union benefits?
